STUDIO SESSIONS

Class Descriptions

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra or “sleep yoga” is an ancient practice of guided meditation that is deeply healing for the body and mind. Participants dress comfortably and bring their favorite blanket and pillow.  After padding up in a comfortable supine position with extra yoga blankets, yogis are gently guided through systematically relaxing every part of the body into a fully conscious state of profound relaxation that stimulates the body's innate ability to heal itself.  One hour of Yoga Nidra is said to be the equivalent of 3-4 hours of sleep.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga retrains the body and mind for relaxation, balancing the autonomic nervous system and reducing central nervous system overload. Yogis will experience deep relaxation in opening postures, supported by bolsters and blankets. Focus is on stillness, meditation, and breath awareness in all areas of the body. This is a beautiful class and a great introduction to yoga.

Power Yoga

Power Yoga is an advanced, moving class requiring some degree of physical fitness and mobility, although modifications are available.  Prior yoga classes are not necessary.  Classes will alternate between a creative, energetic, and moving Vinyasa flow, connecting the breath and movement,  and a slower flowing Short-Form Ashtanga, building ujjayi pranayama (victorious breath), drishti (focus), and equanimity while focusing on poses designed to increase strength, flexibility, and balance in the body and engage the bandhas.  Power Yoga classes increase strength, balance, and flexibility and connect the breath with movement.

YogaInstead/Teen Yoga

YogaInstead for Teens is an ongoing community outreach program for youth 12-18 years old, which includes special events, free summer classes, and yoga at school.  The physical and emotional benefits of yoga are evidence-based and well recognized. Yoga promotes healthy living; stress reduction; physical fitness; emotional well being; a safe and nurturing environment and community; positive body image; and a drug-free alternative to at-risk youth.  Youth learn meditation, breathing techniques, and postures that empower them to make healthy choices, develop appropriate coping skills, handle stress and conflict, and avoid unhealthy behaviors.
